Malenge means 'pumpkin' in Swahili, and this warm shopper is scattered with them: round blue and brown pumpkins on a soft beige ground, surrounded by tiny bubbles that make the whole print quietly dance. With her earthy calm, Malenge fits every day of the week.
This bag is lovingly handmade in our atelier in Mtwara, where women are given the opportunity to learn the craft. Mama Asha chose this print because the pumpkins reminded her of the market stalls at the end of the harvest, piled high and glowing in the late sun. Each Malenge shopper is made with care and precision, combining traditional techniques with a soft, grounded look.
