Meet Kivuli - The Spiral Beach Bag

Kivuli means 'shadow' in Swahili, and this beach bag has a beautiful sense of depth and mystery. Her rich black background comes to life with intricate spiral motifs, geometric patterns and delicate details in warm brown, cream and golden olive. The repeating circles create a lovely sense of movement, while the contrasting lines give her a bold, sophisticated look.

This bag is lovingly handmade in our atelier in Mtwara, where women are given the opportunity to learn the craft. Mama Zuhura chose this print because the spirals reminded her of the cool shade under the big mango tree outside the atelier, where the women gather to rest in the afternoon heat. Each Kivuli bag is made with care and precision, celebrating the creativity of the women behind Nguvu.
