Feruzi means 'turquoise' in Swahili, and this beach bag shimmers like the clear waters of the Tanzanian coast. Her kitenge print combines turquoise and fresh mint green with deep navy and golden olive accents. Playful swirls and leaf shapes dance across a mosaic background, like sunlight sparkling on the waves.
This bag is lovingly handmade in our atelier in Mtwara, where women are given the opportunity to learn the craft. Mama Fatuma chose this print because the turquoise reminds her of the shallow lagoons at low tide, where the water glows in every shade of blue and green. The swirling shapes remind her of the seashells she collected on the beach as a girl.
